Within the soldier"s life you don"t get much and what you have on you is what you are left with. Tim o"brien did an excellent job describing what each soldier carried during the war in the reading the thing they carried. The items that were described in the reading were considered necessities and not luxury things. Many of the things that they carried were pocket knives, rations, and mosquito repellent. These ideas are very standard for soldiers to carry around but there are other things that are personal that soldiers could carry as well. With the equipment that each soldier carried their personal ideas were never left behind because for most soldiers those pictures from home were what kept them going. Even if it meant extra weight for the solider. Even though these ideas are simple and don"t seem like much for soldiers this was plenty.
