Models influence the way we view the world we live and interact in. Mental health is full of models and theories (you are going to identify with one) Disclaimer (things usually aren"t tangible in this field) Eye, view, behavior (how you are going to view substance use disorders) We do what we do for a reason. Why do you do what you are abstaining from? (usually you pick something you know is bad for you but continue to do it) People use, misuse, abuse, and develop dependence on behaviors, alcohol, and drugs. Models help us process this question of why and thus impacts our response to it. Behaviors will always make sense at some point. We are all the product of our experience. Moral model - this is a model based off a person"s defects in character. Sociocultural model - this model is based off of the person"s environment.
