ACB 8120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 55: Trigeminal Ganglion, Trigeminal Nerve Nuclei, Sensory Neuron
Document Summary
Trigeminal gsa nucleus consists of 3 parts extending through the entire brainstem and rostral spinal cord. Located in the medulla and rostral cervical spinal cord receives impulses conveying simple sensations (pain, temp, simple touch from cn v plus vii, ix, and x) Receives impulses conveying sophisticated sensations, discriminative touch, vibration, conscious proprioception from cn. Located in the midbrain, receives impulses conveying unconscious proprioception from cn v. Note: cell bodies for these neurons are here not the trigeminal. Nerve ternimals on the face, tongue, oral cavity, alveoli, sinuses, ganglion eyes. Secondary neuron crosses midline and scends to thalamus in trigeminothalamic tract (trigenimal lemniscus) Nerve terminals on the face, tongue, oral cavity, alveoli, sinuses, Secondary neuron crosses midline and ascend to thalamus in trigeminothalamic tract. Synapse with tertiary sensory neuron in thalamus. Synapse in ventral posterior medial (vpm) nucleus of thalamus. Tertiary neuron projects to primary sensory cortex (postcentral gyrus) via internal capsule.
