A brief history - the first cocaine era. The first cocaine era was 2000-5000 years ago - use was harmonious. Discovery was inevitable because its naturally occurring. Use was seen as effective and beneficial. For much of its history, it has been used in areas where it grows natively. Route of administration: users chewed on the leaves of the coca bush. Mild effects - not terribly reinforcing, takes a while to exert psychoactive properties, doesn"t produce extreme rush. Leaves contained less than 1 to 1. 8% cocaine. Because effects were seen as non-dangerous and beneficial. Technologies, understandings of the drug overtime, opening of global routes of import. Popular drug in medical community (widely distributed by physicians) Not seen as problematic or socially concerning yet.
