We think that we are reasonable beings, and that our beliefs are grounded in reasons, support, and evidence. When we don"t have a reason for believing something, we are not supposed to believe it, and if we find out that one of our beliefs has no support at all, we are supposed to reject it. We are the sort of being that proportions belief to reasons and evidence. In the case of some of our most central beliefs, we have almost no proof or evidence, but we still believe with 100% confidence. The prime example our beliefs about the importance and value of our pursuits and projects. Other possible examples politics? belief in the existence of other minds? the philosophical perception of the absurd resembles epistemological skepticism (722, 723-24).
