Nagel - we as human beings take ourselves way too seriously. We"d have more bene ts if we could take ourselves less seriously. 2 senses that human life is absurd acknowledge that. He says though we can de nitely answer the second question. Says we have a lot of beliefs but don"t really have a lot of evidence for it and we need to. Nagel says we can"t act how epictetus wants us to detach - biologically impossible. Even after being told of the total recall or matrix machine, we go on and still believe we"re in. Says if we can"t prove anything in reality to anyone, then technically can"t prove that god. We need to approach our lives with irony instead of despair.
