PSY 1001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Sigmund Freud, Introjection, Reaction Formation
Document Summary
Introjection: incorporate demands of others as if they were yours. Projection: attribute forbidden impulses to another: useful tools, but if you overly use them then they will take over control of behavior. Theory based on small, representative sample: patients he studied had mental disorder, not typical people. If patients agreed with him= therapy was successful. If patients disagreed with him= therapy was unsuccessful. Understand= predict and control the antecedents and control the behavior. Face validity: the extent to which the measure captures the intended meaning things and not because you are hungry. Example- amount of food eaten is a measure of (cid:498)hunger(cid:499) Example- eating something because (cid:498)it tastes good(cid:499) (cid:498)for any x, if x has the property f, then x has property. Empiricism uses inductive method: find examples in the world. Studies: involve, measuring something about a population: population: a group of individuals.
