PSY 1001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Retina, Subjective Constancy, Color Constancy
Document Summary
Sensation: process by which our sensory receptors and nervous system receive and represent stimuli from the environment. Vision receptors: rods and cones-neurons that take visual sensory info and convert it to neural info. Different types of cones- blue, green, red: trichromatic theory: there are 3 types of cones (blue, green, red) Colors combine to allow us to see the rainbow": tetrachromat: additional cones. Occurs in other species: opponent process theory: cone photoreceptors are linked together to from 3 opposing color pairs- blue/yellow, red/green, black/white. Perception: process of organizing and interpreting sensory information: enables recognition of meaningful objects and events. Experiment with inversion goggles: brain adjusts to upside down images. Experiences guide us on how we perceive things.
