Social psychology study of the way behavior or cognitions are influenced by the presence of others you behave differently when other people are around ex. Latency to urinate (men in public restrooms, in other men are there, then it takes longer to begin urinating adds pressure) Classic experiments: milgram"s study: obedience to authority. In the lab: someone who is called subject teacher and learner. The learner will be asked questions, if he answers right, nothing happens, if its wrong, the teacher presses button to shock learner. As the shocking continues, the learner complains about the pain, and the teacher wonders if they should keep hurting them. The authority overseer tells them they have to keep pushing the button. The question was, how far are these volunteer teachers willing to hurt the learner. They don"t stop because there is an authority figure telling them to. The predicted results were that the subjects would slowly quite as the shock levels increased.
