COMM 115 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Proxemics, Paralanguage, Body Language
Document Summary
Briefly explain the nine types of nonverbal communication we have studied in class and include a unique personal example in each explanation: silence. When i am upset with someone else, i often use silence to show my aggravation and anger towards the person who made me get to this point: paralanguage. Our voices are versatile instruments that gives others cues to how to interpret us. I speak very loudly without realizing i do. To others, it gives them the idea that i assert dominance in any factor or place, which is an interpretation they make about me that is true: chronemics. The length of time with other people or situations. I spend more time with my grandmother than i would with a normal friend. This is because i value my grandmother and her life more so than i would the other person. And also because she is my family, one would spend more time with family than a friend: proxemics.
