Different issues: there are interesting opportunities for gamification to help the social good. Valuable to see the range of applications- things that firms are already doing to motivate employees. Social goods: a set of things that help people become better (healthier, broader social goods outside of the firm"s core interest. There"s a lot of positive engagement and energy that comes out of games; they make us more focused and sociable. Specifically what"s different about gamification when the context is social or personal impact: Inherent relatedness- motivation (one of the 3 components of the self-determination theory)- being part of something greater than yourself o. It has meaning and is real to you so it activates your latent desire so you do something o. Is there something troubling for doing something for rewards instead of your actual desire to do something good. However, charging a penalty is even more detrimental: behavior change- getting people over the hump.
