Nutrition is the science of food and the nutrients it contains. High in fiber, low in energy, digestibility varies with type and animal, Prevents bloating, helps to move the nutrition that is consumed to move through the system; larger byproduct of the digestion is gas, gases accumulate and if not released bloating will occur. Fiber breaks up that reaction, hence, preventing bloating. Examples: fescue, timothy hay, bermuda grass, alfalfa hay. High in energy, low in fiber, 80-90% digestibility. Whole grains are better; surrounding each kernel is a germ and that has fiber in it. So whole grain with germ is much better as it is very digestible.
