Number of teats within a species varies. Animal migrates from reproductive system into pouch where they can grow and nurse. Always milk in mammary gland after first offspring is born. 60,000 alveoli in one cubic centimeter of mammary tissue. Squeeze alveoli forces milk to come out. Oxytocin causes me iber contraction milk low. Components of milk come from blood and mammary tissue. Mammary gland need good blood supply to keep producing. 300-500 gallons of blood per one gallon of milk. Can put a strain on body so cows are only milked twice a day. Peak production around six or seven years old. Udder too big and pendulous diiculty milking. Cannot sell milk with antibiotics in it. Mammary glands function independent of each other if one gland infected, doesn"t mean the other is. Ketone bodies produce sweet smelling breath and urine. Coma and death if not quickly treated.
