Atoms: cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, organism. Genes - code for synthesis of particular protein(gene expression) Fertilized egg copies all dna to form daughter cells. Differentiation - genes shut off/turned on, give purpose. Combination of expressed genes will dictate how the cell will function. Electric pulses release neurotransmitters, and they bind to the cell membrane of another cell to communicate. Exocrine glands - secrete from cells through ducts. The maintenance of a dynamic, steady state of the internal environment. A response to a change in a controlled variable is in opposition to the change. The response to a change in a controlled variable is the same direction of the controlled variable. Body is mostly made of c, h, n, & o w/ traces of na, mg, ca, k, etc. Atomic number(top right corner) - identifies # of protons, distinguished one atom from another. Atomic mass(top left corner) - mass in amu(atomic mass unit), allows calculation of neutrons.
