K-9 police officers work long hard days with their dogs to enforce laws and apprehend criminals. The extensive training and hard work put into these dogs make the relationship between the officers and the dog inseparable. Protection of each other is vital to the job therefore the relationship is so important. There are different types of dogs that are used for different tasks and jobs. As well as different types of training that each dogs go through for the different types of jobs. K-9 dogs were first used in the roman times for hunting humans, but recently, about 100 years ago they were introduced into law enforcement. The first types of dogs that they used in the k-9 force was bloodhounds. Later on, the police force found that different dogs can be used for this job as well. For example, a german shepherd dog, known as the stereotypical k-9 dog, mainly is used as a search dog for missing persons.
