Supplies the somatic motor component of the following muscles: Levator palpebrae superioris elevates and retracts upper eyelid. Superior rectus controls upward eye gaze. Medial rectus controls medial eye movement. Inferior oblique controls upward and medial eye gaze. Supplies the visceral motor component of the following muscles: Pupillary sphincter controls the size of the pupil. Ciliary muscles changes the shape of the lens. The nucleus projecting to these muscles edinger westphal nucleus. Pupillary light reflex constriction of pupil to light. Shining a light in one"s eyes results in both pupils constricting. Accommodation reflex reflex changes that enable an object to be focused on the retina. Central lesion both nuclei are damaged. Strabismus - inability to direct both eyes toward the same object. Due to the medial rectus being paralyzed. Inability to move the affected eye medially or vertically.
