CMD 377 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Inferior Frontal Gyrus, Cingulate Sulcus, Precentral Gyrus
Document Summary
Sagittal: divides the brain into right and left side. Frontal (coronal): parallel to the long axis of the body and perpendicular to the sagittal plane; divides brain into front and back part. Transverse (axial): perpendicular to the long axis of the body; separates brain into upper and lower parts. Any neuron or nerve cell process located outside the bony confines of the skull and vertebral column: cranial nerves (12 pairs, spinal nerves (31 pairs, dorsal root ganglia and peripheral branches, portions of the autonomic nervous system. Ganglia masses of neuronal cell bodies in the pns. Nerve bundle of axons; collection of nerve fibers. Divisions of pns: somatic division carries information to and from muscles and skeletal framework, visceral division (autonomic) carries information to and from internal organs; parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system, types of fibers. Afferent (sensory): carry information away from given structure. Efferent (motor): carry impulses to given structure.
