Production of water co2 , and heat. Mechanical process by which air is drawn into the lungs and forced out again. Air occupies space and there is a relationship between the volume of air and pressure. Boyle"s law states that as constant temperature, as volume decreases, air pressure in a container increases proportionately. Positive pressures pressures greater than atmospheric. Negative pressure pressures less than atmospheric. In mammals is airtight, lungs lie within. Can be increased or decreased in volume. When volume in thorax is increased get negative pressure in the lungs. When volume is decreased get positive pressure in lungs. Larynx is the dividing line between upper and lower respiratory tracts. Negative pressure in the lungs leads to air rushing in until inside and outside pressures equalize.
