CMD 272 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Aryepiglottic Fold, Vocal Folds, Thyrohyoid Membrane
Document Summary
Attached to inner surface of the thyroid cartilage. Hypothesized to be protective during swallowing in humans. Closes larynx off to anything but air. Found on superior surface of the posterior quadrate lamina of the cricoid cartilage form posterior attachment for the vocal folds. Vocal processes project anteriorly from base toward thyroid cartilage. Posterior portion of vocal folds attached to the vocal processes. Muscular processes muscles of adduction and abduction of vocal folds. Found at the apex of the arytenoids. Extrinsic ligaments provide attachment between the hyoid or trachea and the cartilage of the larynx. Stretches across the space between the greater cornu of the hyoid bone and the lateral thyroid. Runs from superior cornu of thyroid to the posterior tip of the greater cornu of the hyoid. Runs from the corpus hyoid to the upper border of the anterior thyroid. Attach epiglottis to the corpus hyoid and inner thyroid cartilage.
