Contractions every 8-10 minutes (every 2 minutes toward the end of this stage) Each contraction lasts about 30 seconds to a minute. Contractions occur, but it is not time to deliver the child. Can start as early as 4 months after conception. The infant"s head is moving further through the cervix. Episiotomy procedure meant to increase size of the vaginal opening. Not done much anymore too many risks.
