Crisis - a critical time period in an individual"s development (erikson , 1968) Central process - individuals make sense of their surroundings by changing their self-concept. These allow an individual to cope through life. Negative characteristics that can develop if a crisis is handled ineffectively. Developmental stage - a certain time period in an individual"s life. Developmental tasks - individual learning required tasks during a particular time period in their life. Age-graded expectations - tasks that need to be learned during a particular time period. Confidence/trust in parents that they are in a safe place. Stage 2: autonomy vs. shame and doubt (2-3 years old) Stage 4: industry vs. inferiority (6 years old-adolescence) Stage 5: identity vs. role confusion (adolescence) Prime adaptive ego quality: fidelity to others and fidelity to values. Unable to understand things from another"s point of view. Stage 7: generativity vs. stagnation (middle adulthood)
