BISC 121Lg Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Combination Lock, Prosopagnosia, Agnosia
Document Summary
Perception is the experience that results from stimulation. Lecture 5: your interpretation of stimulation, gateway to other cognitions. Perceptions can change with added information, and it is also based upon prior information. Perception is similar to reasoning and problem solving. Perception occurs in conjunction with actions: an action can be caused by perception. Example: turning your head in response to a loud noise. Perception is so rapid and effortless that most of the time, it seems to be automatic even though it is not: very hard to teach a robot perception because it is not automatic. Why is it difficult to get a machine to perceive: inverse projection problem- the problem that arises when attempting to determine the object responsible for a retinal image. Anything, theoretically, could have caused the pattern of retinal stimulation. Top down processing- begins in the brain using factors based on previous experience.
