Things are not appropriate, they are condemned within society. Specific times that are dedicated to specific activities - central to their society. Could be scolded and punished for believing the wrong thing at the wrong time, or doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. The state designates what the clans can do (?) keeping clans from arguing over which responsibilities they want. Rituals to exorcise the ghosts of the dead from their homes.
