Frames: classic: 1. 33/1 ratio (4:3, widescreen 1. 88/1, 2. 35/1 (8:5) Before a director can photograph, he/she has to frame the film to give it visual structure. Right side of the screen is stronger because in western culture people read from left to right. World of the movie does not end at the edge of the frame - movie has off-screen space. Left, right, above, below, behind the camera, beyond the set. Proxemic patterns -> fixed meanings: relationship between actors, lighting scheme to create distance/meaning o o. Adds depth: movement from right -> left is stronger because it goes against what the eye is used to. Extreme long shot - character not clearly visible; includes a lot of scenery. Long shot - character fully visible + some scenery: medium long shit - knees up, medium shot - bust/torso up, close up - head o. Extreme close up - super close shot of face (or other body part)
