Every category of film has the same myth: content: subject, themes, character, setting, visual design, content = defining force in film categorization. Conventions - ways of doing things that are specific to a genre. Iconography - type of image or sound icon that is frequently repeated in a film (ex: cowboys in western film, machine gun going off in gangster film) Tragedy - image of man going beyond the bounds/breaking limits: a heroic protagonist necessary for tragedy, no longer a viable form, hero usually invoked nostalgically o.
