GEOL 150Lg Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Longwave, Northern Hemisphere, Advection
Document Summary
Feedbacks (positive warm, negative-cool) positive keep building on themselves. Water vapor feedback- changes in water vapor in the atmosphere can have both a positive and negative affect on the climate. Atmosphere holds more water vapor as the temp increases. More water can lead to more clouds, this can become a negative feedback (clouds are reflective) Ice feedback- albedo (positive) more radiation is reaching the earth"s surface instead of being reflected. The ocean is getting warmer and therefore more water vapor is going into the atmosphere and doesn"t allow heat (longwave radiation) to get out. Volcanism- short term influence-put matter in the atmosphere and can increase the reflectivity (can cause global cooling) Climate sensitivity- how mean global surface temp changes as energy is added to or subtracted from the climate system. Converted to: potential energy, latent heat, kinetic energy, electrical energy.
