Ej focuses on social implications of environmentalism and its unequal distribution. Afton, nc was the first big case. Government wanted to dump nasty waste in their town, 6 weeks of protest followed but didn"t succeed. General accounting office 1983 found 3/4ths of hazardous waste landfills in the southeast were in african american and latino poor communities. Ucc 1987 report found race to be the single best predictor of locations. Replicated the report in 2007 and found that it"s gotten worse. Congressional black caucus 1990 found that the epa didn"t meet the needs of minority communities. 1991 first national people of color environmental leadership summit. Language about our sacred mother earth, cultural liberation, colonization and oppression. 1992 environmental equity working group headed by epa admin. 1994 bill clinton signs executive order to make ej a part of decision making. 2014 people"s climate march called to change everything, 310,000 people marched.
