Based on idea that public opinion polls of more educated, upper income whites was more supportive of civil rights reform than lower income whites . 14th amendment -1868 equally protection and due process blacks and whites should get this but blacks didn"t have it equally. 19th amendment- 1919 women got the right to vote suffragette movement. Montgomery bus boycott- 1955 lasted 18 months low income were effected. Black boy whistled at white woman and got beaten and killed. Civil rights act- 1964 prohibits discrimination based on: Later amended to include pregnant women, 40+ and disabled people. In order to successfully do the job, you have to be of certain religion, national origin, sex, or color. Have to make up for the discrimination they have done. De facto discrimination is the same as dejure discrimination. In fact you"re discriminating even if it isn"t clearly stated is the same as clearly stating the discrimination.
