Sexes evolved by natural selection through mixing of genes. You have 50% of mother"s genes and 50% of father"s. Humans lived in the nunting and gathering bands for most of human history. Gender stratification= occurs when members of one gneder category consistently receive more valued resources than members of another. Horticultural and pastoral societies: some gender inequalities becomes institutionalized, growing pops require greater structure (emergence of religion, hierarchy, authority, politics) Agrarian societies: male dominance is institutionalized, emergence of traders, merchants, artisans, bankers, etc. Post-industrial societies: gender stereotypes of occupations exit, less inequality than agrarian and industrial societies. Corpus callosum: bundle of nerves that connects the 2 halves of the brian, may be larger in females, may help explain why language tends to be less lateralized in females.
