Misinformation effect memory errors that result from misinformation received after an event was experienced. Easy to produce errors with just one word enough to alter an individual"s recollection. Ex. college students told that investigators were trying to learn how different people remember the same experience. Given a list of events that were reported by their parents (lie) Asked to recall these events to compare them and their parents story. College students able to remember the genuine events. More than 80% of these events were recalled. With repeated attempts at recall changed results. 3rd interview many were able to give details about the bogus event. Some provide participants with evidence to support bogus memory. One procedure created a fake picture with a real childhood pic of the participant. With a prompt, many participants were led to a detailed recollection of a hot-air balloon ride. Another study used an unaltered photo showing their 2nd-grade class.
