Document Summary

Centriole/centrosome duplication is semi-conservative (but no obvious template), with each centrosome receiving one old and one new centriole. M-cdk centrosome separation and recruitment of additional g-turc: many more (5x!) Mt nucleated, leading to larger numbers of mt (that are much shorter and more dynamic) A specific e3 (scf) and the proteasomal machinery are enriched at centrosomes, where they perform essential functions in centriole separation. The duplicated centrosomes separate in prophase and begin to form the spindle. Structure of the animal mitotic spindle: astral and interpolar microtubules are collectively known as non-kinetochore microtubules. Microtubule motor proteins that act at different locations (at different time) govern spindle assembly and function. Don"t memorize the numbers of the different kinesins, remember only their sites and modes of action. Kinesin-5 is a (+) end- directed motor that spans 2 anti-parallel interpolar microtubules. It is phosphorylated and activated by m-cdk and other kinases.
