Aethra (from trozean) + aegeus (king of athens) Aethra gets pregnant by aegeus, then goes for a walk. Poseidon sees her and has sex with her, making her doubly pregnant and her baby with two fathers. His king father aegeus ties theseus to athens, but poseidon makes him a god. When heracles was stealing her girdle as one of his labors, he also took hippolyta and then gave her to theseus to be married. Significant that he was the only male born from an amazon who was not killed right after birth.
