Dysfunctional, distressing, and destructive, diminishes a person"s ability to function, and do what they want. Exploits innocence harms people that cannot protect themselves. The unfulfilled things that don"t end up happening. Dark side communication is everywhere can look at things in a more detailed way. Ex. being affectionate is a normal thing in relationships. Functional: how things actually work in our day to day lives. Being affectionate can be taken as coming on too strong. Production (jealousy) reminds you that you care. Variance in definitions across the geographies and generations. South more just kissing, touching, etc. Casual acquaintances (not in a intimate relationship) Sexual behavior (anything from kissing sex) Biological concerns much higher costs for a girl like getting pregnant. Ex. study says men value chastity in female partners. Middle of the road not together but kinda, partial commitment.
