Lecture continued from last time: bottom-up can be good when no idea where to start, maybe not so good for languages. Exceed amount of normal communication input a hearing child receives. Talk more to deaf children: goal is that child"s system actually does the work. Focus attention on child"s communication needs: as opposed to focusing on having to take a series of steps, approach tailored to each child. Specific training only as necessary, in functional contexts. Identify words containing target: her brother"s name was bucky , work on specific skills in syllables extracted from these words. Kee , ak : once target hit, plug back into words for practice.
