Social policies are policies that promote the well being of members of society. They in uence how the goods and services required to live comfortably are distributed in society. Social spending: is spending on social policy programs; spending on programs that promote the well being of members of society. Entitlement: a class of government bene ts for which eligibility is based on set criteria de ned by law. Once received, entitlements cannot be denied without due process of the law. Contributory programs: a welfare program into which people contribute money directly. An example of this is a contributory pension program: working people contribute a percentage of their wages and receive cash bene ts after retirement. Noncontributory welfare programs: do not require a contribution in order to receive them. Recipients must apply fourths programs and show a nancial need in order to receive aid. Working americans contribute a percentage of their wages and receive cash bene ts after retirement.
