Document Summary

The political system of the united states is fairly unique. This is due to the unusual historical circumstances at the time of the founding. The us constitution is the oldest currently enforced constitution in the world. The us constitution is very di cult to amend. The us constitution was intended to provide a new government for a new country; lled in an institutional vacuum. The us constitution re ects the political dependence of an agrarian society; industrialization and the rise of the labor movement has no major impact on the formal rules of the game. The us constitution is based on the idea of liberal democracy; other countries are equally in uenced by conservative and social democracy. Most important is the role in regulating the economy. Emphasis on limited government especially in the realm of economics. Suspicion of political participation, tyranny of the majority . Still the primary ideology of the us political system.
