State of total war: war assumes all facets of life, soldiers were not the only ones involved- entire society involved. At the time, known as war to end all wars: we know now that such was not the case. Intersection of moral language and positive laws: for the first time, people considered charging national leaders for moral climes. Other treaties: some addressed where minority populations would go, discussed nationality (where one belongs in terms of the state), freedom of religion, etc. Not just europe, struggle for rights emerged all over the world after the war ended: discussed problems of colonialism, language used by. League of nations created: woodrow wilson- 14 points. 1940: isolationism and public opinion prevented us from joining war, but fdr was secretly helping british allies. Wants freedom of economic security, freedom from fear: speech: ideological basis for america"s involvement in the war. Based on individual rights and liberties: before war, fdr launched new deal.
