MIS 302F Lecture 2: Unit 2 Notes
Document Summary
This unit introduces the software ecosystem as part of it networks. To help us better understand the concepts and characteristics of the software ecosystem, we"ll use a company case for microsoft. Microsoft uses many different network strategies and network effects to attract and retain customers. This is a good example of a company that takes full advantage of every part of the software ecosystem. Lesson 1: the software ecosystem: software ecosystem: a set of businesses functioning as a unit and interacting with a shared market for software and services, together with relationships among them. The software ecosystem consists of layers, like an operating system, hardware, applications, and more: companies make strategic business decisions based on how these software ecosystem layers work together. Konana"s ecosystem model represents a visual of how the software ecosystem layers build upon each other. The type of hardware a company chooses determines the operating system that can be run on that hardware.
