MAN 337 Lecture 7: GE's Two-Decade Transformation Case Study
Document Summary
How has welch"s various initiatives added value? (required) Although ge is a massive conglomerate, it has continued to grow for many reasons. 1980"s, they were forced to distaff and become lean and agile while also evaluating results against externa data rather than internal which allowed them to become more competitive. Although the number of employees decreased, revenue began to increase. I the late 80"s, welch began a company-wide rollout and change initiative called work-out with teams of 40-100 employees sharing their views which allowed the workplace to be more open and inviting of everyone"s ideas. Ge took part in the global thrust in the late 80"s and welch continued to focus on developing the people and their skills as he rated ge top-level managers to help coach them better. In the 90"s, welch began to focus on the creative side of things being boundaryless" and began to diversify the dealings in which ge was involved.
