Didn"t want to acknowledge that aids were real, didn"t want to admit it could affect people outside lgbtq community, and even in the community. 1981: see rare physical manifestations of aids in gay men, no language for aids, no medical knowledge of it, just by end of 1981, 270 cases reported, 181 deceased. Could be more than that: called gay-related immune deficiency (grid) Shows that ppl think this could be an internal disease, not external disease. We must make sense of the gay community.
