Does not take the audience for granted. We watch them because it is not us in the situation, feel empathy. Plot, character, language, thought, music, and spectacle. Arthur miller invented the modern tragedy (used a common not noble man) Audience wants villain to be punished (cid:5) (cid:5) (cid:5) (cid:5) (cid:5) (cid:5) Photos capture the world, miniaturizes them for portability. Blurs the lines between drama and theatre. Often outside of a traditional theatre space. Can be focused in the process over the product. Blurs line between audience and actor = spectactor. 1990s- to give a voice to people whose voices are suppressed.
