They must know that what they"re watching is the show; be critical. Actor does not become or identify with a character but rather presents and comments on a role. Ex/ angels in americca -> that"s very steven speilburg by him making this comment is a way of setting the scene even before it starts and eliminating the c effect. Opposed psychological realism (getting into the character mind) Theatre isn"t just for fun, it has to change society. Brecht thought that you have to engage people vs a thought everything starts with the mind.
