UGS 303 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Nurse Practitioner, General Practitioner
Document Summary
Us healthcare system tries to keep people in system to profit. First get blood pressure taken by nurse. Then nurse practitioner, pa, not necessarily md (not have to be on site), then go to pharmacy. Md works with group of other healthcare professionals, so they have more responsibility. Need to have insurance card bc no overarching database for privacy issues. Also need to interact with insurance co. If admitted to hospital, need to interact with a lot of healthcare professionals everytime you move. Should be comfortable with physician you pick. General practitioner vs specialist: depends on disease. Healthcare professionals paid on fee for service. Affordable care act: pays limited amount, enforces efficiency. 10min treating doesn"t help patients get out/solve problems. Focus on acute rather than preventive care.
