Document Summary

We don"t use photographs as textures! cgtextures. com is an excellent resource for textures. Things used for brushes don"t need to be put in source material. Take a photo that has a good texture. Select the bit that"s the texture you want. New layer > paint bucket black to see what you"ve got, also layer beneath white. Windows > brushes > choose brush > play! Angle jitter is useful (changes the angle of the brush as you paint) Color dynamics is also a good tab (messing with how the color appears) When it"s customized you have to save it again! Don"t use 100% black, always use a dark grey. It"s a sliding scale from white to black. Does not use the same rules as bump! White = max shine, black = no shine, 50% grey = half shine. You also mess with the "cosine power" in maya to change how sharp or soft the highlights are!
