Common law - accumulation of precedent from case after case o o is judge made law. Ex: little rock nine, enforcing desegregation of schools. Court had the power to make the decision, but it needed the executive branch to enforce the decision. Eisenhower brought men on the school to bring the students in and the governor called the national guard to keep the black students out. English settlers brought legal tradition with them o. Government is designed to move slowly, the president cannot change everything. Us constitution: supreme law of the land. Congress impeach president: religious doctrine is trumped by federal law, fundamental rights. Compromise of power between federal and state power, not so much the individual rights. Day to day work of the legislative and executive branch.
