ITSS 4370 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Virtual Private Network, Enhanced Data Rates For Gsm Evolution, Backbone Network
Service Level Agreements
• Identify terms:
• Uptime percentage
• Amount of traffic at a given time (bandwidth)
• Data rate or bandwidth limitations
• Performance and capacity of resources
• Schedule requirements for notifications (planned maintenance and outages)
• How much will you need
• Help desk response times, scope, limitations
• Security
• Privacy
• Availability
Service-Level Agreements
• Penalties
• Compensation, refunds, or discounts
• Exit conditions
• Availability zones
• Which do you have access to
• If your provider is reselling (buying from another provider), which of those
do you have access to?
• Disaster recovery provisions
Regions and Availability Zones
• A region is an actual geographic area
• Availability zone is a distinct location within a region is insulated from failures in
any other zone
• Availability Zones are logical identifiers and are unique to an account. That means
that two people who map the same zone name may not actually be running in the
same physical location
• 2009 – Amazon 3 availability zones in US and 2 availability zones in Europe
Network and IP documentation
• Document the networks and IP configurations
• Consider all traffic, understand all traffic flows
• Include:
• Core network
• Access network – provides access for users to shared resources
• Edge network – provides connectivity to external users
• Internet
• Wide Area Networks (WANs)
• Backbones
• Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
