Activists are a minority and are politically different from the majority. Issues: (p. 80) - these should be reformed, not removed because some of these are good. People involved in this are very small in numbers who do not identify with the majority. Turning it over to the activists, but they don"t represent the people. Moved from a responsible democracy to a popular democracy. Responsible - elections grant popular consent, see what"s going on, pick new leaders retrospectively (evaluate over the past few years and if they are doing well) Popular - elections are expressions of the popular will, having propositions and referendums, selecting the laws. We have too much democracy and if we want to fix this, we should turn it back. People are less trusting of government now. - make politics matter more and more people will participate. When people had less input, they were more trusting of government. Redistricting process - usually done politically, legislature redraws the map.
