Document Summary

Looking at dna remnants left behind at a crime scene. Like fingerprinting, seeing if there is a match between sources of dna. If there is dna evidence, it is often considered very strong. The involvement of human beings in this process complicates the analysis of dna evidence. Need to think very carefully around forensic science. There is no theoretical basis for what happens in forensics. Forensic scientists/people above them might have other reasons for their findings. Not a lot of oversight in this industry. Forensic science is less regulated than dog food. Management at many of these forensic labs are trying to put together industry standards. More to insulate their position in the courtroom. However, these journals aren"t really there for finding the truth. A lot of this science is generated to try and claim legitimacy to the methods used in labs. Based on the idea that everyone"s prints are unique. We rarely have full prints, we normally have partials.
