Note: review session april 20th, be sure to bring questions. We will be focusing on the supreme court for these lectures. If supreme court is not effective, it is unlikely that any other court will be effective. The court sought to change something with its decision. Party who wins the case gets the remedy speci ed in the opinion. Doesn"t happen nearly as often as you think it does. Litigants themselves ought to be affected by the opinion. Did linda brown get to go to a predominately white school after brown v. Mostly we care about the rst one, not always a broad societal question in cases. Nobody really has to do anything for a decision to go into effect. Sc ordering nixon to turn over tapes related to watergate, leads to resignation. Clinton is compelled to testify in civil lawsuit. Prayers in public schools being unconstitutional but still happening every now and then.
