Document Summary

Titer- concentration of antibodies in serum measured over a period of time. Response to antigens: latent period, primary- igm then igg, secondary- both are higher and more immediate, higher amount of antibodies in shorter amount of time thanks to memory. Clonal expansion- rapid multiplication of b or t cell clones after mechanism by antigen. Clonal selection- mechanism be which the exact correct b or t cell is activated by incoming antigen. Clonal deletion- remove any t or b cells that can potentially react to self before any potential damage can occur. Autoimmunity- body attacks own cells, problem with clonal deletion. Epitope- portion of antigen lymphocyte will respond to, serves as primary signal to immune system that molecule is foreign. Super antigens- toxins- t cell response x 100- toxic shock syndrome. Actively acquired immunity: after recovering from an infectious disease, a person will generally be actively resistant to reinfection for a varying period according to the disease.
